Opening Keynote Speaker LGen The Hon. Roméo Dallaire (Ret) is a true hero and an outspoken leader for the 21st century A decorated Lieutenant General, Dallarie served 35 years with the Canadian Armed Forces. His best-selling book, Shake Hands With the Devil, is a stirring account of his experience as the Force Commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission to Rwanda, which exposes the failures of the international community to stop the worst genocide in the 20th century. Keynote Speaker Mr. Gary Dickson, QC, was appointed Saskatchewan’s first full time Information and Privacy Commissioner effective November 1, 2003. A native Albertian, he earned a B.A in political science/history and received his LL.B. from the University of Alberta. He practiced law in Calgary until he became an M.L.A. During his legislative period he was directly involved in the development, enactment and implementation of the Alberta freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Health Information Act. Mr. Dickson has spoken and written extensively on access, privacy and health information issues. . Keynote Speaker Dr. Glenn Pancyr, PhD, R.D. Psych., 20 years of clinical experience as a clinical health psychologist. An excellent speaker with years of supervision, teaching and consultation experience, he treats clients from insurance companies, conducts a modest individual private practice and consults to a rehabilitation clinic (STAR Rehab/CBI Health), and the human resource departments of the Saskatoon Public School Division, the University of Saskatchewan, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. He is a Psychological Consultant to Saskatchewan Government Insurance. Accommodations We have been fortunate to have secured the Delta Bessborough Hotel, located in Saskatoon, on the banks of the Saskatchewan River, as the site of our National Conference and 37th Annual General Meeting. The hotel is noted for its distinctive property and the quality of its services. The river location, close to the downtown area, is beautiful. Room rates start at $126.00 per night plus taxes for a standard room. For those who wish to stay for the weekend, the Saskatoon Jazz Festival is on and is conveniently located on the hotel grounds. The group rate still applies for the hotel rooms if booked in conjunction with the conference. Hotel reservations can be made by calling the Delta Bessborough Hotel at 1-800-268-1133. Be sure to state you are a CARP member in order to obtain the special group rate. The reservation cut off date for the group rate is May 11th. Register by April 20, 2007 and be eligible for the “early bird draw”. The prize is free accommodation for the conference stay of three nights. Transportation Once again, we have been able to obtain a group rate for travel to Saskatoon for the conference attendees WESTJET is offering a 10% discount off all regularly priced fares and Via Rail is offering 35% off on regular fares and 5% off first class travel.
