Frequently Asked Questions:
How is the CVE designation recognized in Canada?
The CVE is recognized as a professional designation by employers and referrals as an attestation to a minimum level of professional competency. While there is no formal recognition, both employers and referrals recognize the expertise of the certificant and the designation certainly carries added weight in court testimony (accept as an Expert Witness).
Is there a Canadian version of the certification?
There is no Canadian version of the certification. CAVEWAS (Canadian Assessment, Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment society, a national society of CARP) investigated this possibility when we first started to pursue certification back in 1995, however it was felt that the standards and competencies required for Canadian vocational evaluators should be no different that that set out by CCWAVES for U.S. evaluators. CAVEWAS is an appointing organization to CCWAVES and has a representative on the Commission to represent and ensure Canadians input.
Is there U.S. legislation to support the designation?
There is no answer for sure to this question, but we know some states like Florida require it in some settings. You can check out the Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment Association website at www.vewaa.org for more information on this.
