What's New At CARP

April 28, 2006

Dear CARP Member:

Survey Follow-up

A few weeks ago you were sent a survey requesting input into proposed changes to CARP put forward by your National Board.  The results of this survey showed a number of things:

  1. The response to the survey was overwhelming.  Many members took the time to read the material and respond to the questions being asked.  Of particular note was that most took the time not only just to answer “yes” or “no” but to add comments.
  2. It was obvious in reading the survey results there is a strong level of passion for the Association.  Members not only demonstrated they were interested in the vision and direction of CARP, but by their words showed deep commitment to its goals and ideals.
  3. As I wrote in the letter attached to the survey, the National Board was attempting to reflect the wishes of the membership.  The results of the survey were:

·          Proposed changes to the Mission Statement:           Yes:  90%        No:  10%

·          Proposed changes to Scope of Practice:                  Yes:  91%        No:   9%

·          Proposed changes to  Vision Statement:                  Yes:  91%        No:   9%

·          Proposed Name Change:                                        Yes:  77%        No:  23%

As can be seen, in each instance there was a significant majority of members who agree with the proposed changes.

  1. Even though the vast majority of member responses were favourable regarding the changes, many members took the time to give suggestions to further improve the wording.  The National Board will be reviewing each of these proposed amendments and attempt to craft the final statements to be truly reflective of the membership’s vision for the future of the Association.  It was clear from the survey results that the membership is clearly in favour of the direction proposed by the National Board and as such the motions put forward to the National Annual General Meeting in June, 2006 will be reflective of this.  However, over the coming days the National Board will be “word smithing” the proposed changes to assure the final product is most closely aligned with the membership’s direction.  As per our bi-laws you will receive notice of these changes at least 30 days prior to our AGM in Montreal.

The final step in this process will be a vote at our upcoming Annual General Meeting.  These proposed changes go to the heart of our organization and will have a significant effect on its operations over the foreseeable future.  I would encourage you, if at all possible, to attend the AGM and cast your vote.  If you cannot attend you may wish to have another CARP member take your proxy vote to this meeting.

On behalf of the National Board, I would like to thank each of you who took the time to fill out the survey and add your comments.  You have spoken clearly of your strong commitment to our Association and the desire to assure its success.  The Board has taken what you have said very seriously and will be unanimously supporting these changes at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.
